Grads on the Move!

Written by David Edwards

Graduates on the Move!!

Many graduates of the Professional Bartending School of Nashville decide to move away and land bartending jobs in exciting places throughout the United States and abroad.  Over the years, we’ve had graduates bartend their way across Europe, land jobs on cruise ships, bartend in resorts in exotic places like Hawaii and Jamaica, and several graduates have moved to Los Angeles and New York City and bartended.

In the last month, I’ve talked to two students who graduated this year who have moved away from Nashville to land exciting jobs.  We recently spoke to 2008 graduate Adina Powers who was a manager at Cheeseburger Charley’s when she decided to attend the school.  Adina recently landed a job as Food and Beverage Director on the Queen Mary which is permanently docked in California.  She loves the job and the year round beautiful weather.  She enjoys working on one of the world’s most famous ships. Congratulations Adina on landing a great job.

We also recently spoke to Lucias Patton.  After attending the Professional Bartending School of Nashville he moved to Panama City Beach, Florida.  After landing a job at a local bar, he was then hired at the new Margaritaville on Panama City Beach.  At first they hired him part time, but after only one week they gave him a fulltime position based on how well he handled himself behind the bar.  He was very grateful to attend the school and to fulfill his dream of bartending by the beach.  Lucias is the third bartender we have had that has landed jobs in Panama City Beach in the last couple of years.  The staff is planning a road trip to visit Lucias soon.  Congratulations Lucias on landing a great job and keep making that money!!

How About a Little Beer?

How About A Little Beer?

Usually a reponse to that question is no, I want a big beer ! Little Beers are a alot different. I found out about these unique shooters when visiting a local pub here in the Midwest. They were served a very small beer mug that held about two ounces.

The main ingredient is Licor 43, a liqueur that has been made in Spain for over 1800 years. Also known as Cuarenta Y Tres, (which translates into the number 43). Licor 43 has almost the same color as a lager beer, however has a sweet vanilla flavor.

The Licor 43 is poured into the mini mug to three-quarters full. The bartender then gently tops it with whipped cream, to resemble the foam head of a beer. The flavor tastes just like vanilla ice cream!

Visitng Green Hills Graduates

Recently, David and Quinn were at it again visiting some of our most recent graduates.  They started off with a trip to Green Hills.  First stop was at the California Pizza Kitchen.  This place is beautiful with an upscale main bar.  Quinn and David sat at the bar and had dinner with past graduate Ginny.  This is Ginny's second job since she graduated and she is now the Bar Supervisor for the Green Hills location.  She loves her new job and mentioned she had made over $350.00 in one night the previous week.  The pizza was awesome and the drinks were even better.

Next stop was down the street at La Paz.  This by far is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Nashville area, plus it has a happening bar scene.  David went in and visited with Matt who recently graduated the Nashville location.  It was early, but Matt informed David that the night before was slammed and he was expecting another big night ahead of him.  David couldn't stay long because he had clowns to go see.  David promised Matt he would come back some other night to test Matt's pitchers of Margaritas.

Finally, in good spirits, David and Quinn made it to the Sommett Center and attended the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus. The circus was entertaining, almost as entertaining as visiting our graduates.   If you are a past graduate and would like for the staff to come and visit you at your bar, so your picture can go on our Wall of Fame, call (615) 885-5800 and ask for David.

PBSA 2007 School of the Year!

The Professional Bartending School of Nashville recently attended the PBSA National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California held on June 7th and June 8th, 2008.  This was an outstanding meeting with schools from around the county attending the meeting.  PBSA's meeting consisted of two days of training as well as listening to a variety of speakers including Stephen Kauffman - President of Cabo Wabo Tequila, John Baxter, Executive from Guiness Beer, and Sam Stanovich of the National Restaurant Association.  Most of the Nashville staff attended including David Edwards - Director, Quinn Edwards - Assistant Director, Randy Jansen - Instructor/Job Placement Director, and Victor Deaton - Instructor.

San Diego was a wonderful location to attend a meeting.  The weather was 72 degrees with no humidity throughout the week of festivities.  The staff took some time to relax in the sun by attending a San Diego Padres game.  The meeting was held in the Gaslamp District of San Diego at the Hilton.  The Gaslamp District has a very active night life and the Nashville staff felt obligated to do some research in the evenings visiting several restaurants and drinking establishments to catch up on the latest trends in bartending in California.  The staff also made a one day visit to Tijuana visiting the Hard Rock Cafe, as well as eating at a local Mexican restaurant.

On Saturday, the Professional Bartending Schools of America had their Annual Awards Banquet Dinner where the Professional Bartending School of Nashville was named School of the Year for the 9th time out of the last 10 years.  Because of  Nashville's dedication to excellence is was really no surprise to those attending the awards banquet. The staff was just getting over the excitement of receiving the award, when PBSA President Roger Oldham surprised the Nashville staff by naming Randy Jansen the 2007 Instructor of the Year.

Randy is an outstanding instructor who was well deserving of the award, but this came one year after Victor Deaton had won the 2006 Instructor of the Year.  It's one of the few times a campus has won back to back Instructor of the Year awards.  David and Quinn Edwards also won PBSA's Contribution Award given to schools who contribute throughout the year to the Professional Bartending Schools of America system.  Congratulations to the complete staff at Professional Bartending School of Nashville on another outstanding year.

Budweiser American Ale

PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 October 2008 12:58

The New Budweiser American Ale has just been released and is making its way to restaurants, bars, and pubs across the country.

The company website decribes its new ale as carefully brewed, with caramel malted barley and it is dry-hopped with Cascade hops from the Pacific Northwest that gives the beer a citrus aroma.

I was able to try out the American Ale this past week, and found it had a surprisingly lighter flavor than alot of ales I have tried in the past. The head presented a off-white appearence, and the beer itself a deep amber color.

There is a new website for Budweiser American Ale, that has some great video's with the brewmaster, Tom O'Connell. It also has an interactive map that a person could submit their zipcode and it will pinpoint what bars, restaurants, and markets in their area that are currently carrying Budweiser American Ale.

You can check it out at www.budamericanale.com
