The Professional Bartending School of Nashville recently attended the PBSA National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California held on June 7th and June 8th, 2008. This was an outstanding meeting with schools from around the county attending the meeting. PBSA's meeting consisted of two days of training as well as listening to a variety of speakers including Stephen Kauffman - President of Cabo Wabo Tequila, John Baxter, Executive from Guiness Beer, and Sam Stanovich of the National Restaurant Association. Most of the Nashville staff attended including David Edwards - Director, Quinn Edwards - Assistant Director, Randy Jansen - Instructor/Job Placement Director, and Victor Deaton - Instructor.
San Diego was a wonderful location to attend a meeting. The weather was 72 degrees with no humidity throughout the week of festivities. The staff took some time to relax in the sun by attending a San Diego Padres game. The meeting was held in the Gaslamp District of San Diego at the Hilton. The Gaslamp District has a very active night life and the Nashville staff felt obligated to do some research in the evenings visiting several restaurants and drinking establishments to catch up on the latest trends in bartending in California. The staff also made a one day visit to Tijuana visiting the Hard Rock Cafe, as well as eating at a local Mexican restaurant.
On Saturday, the Professional Bartending Schools of America had their Annual Awards Banquet Dinner where the Professional Bartending School of Nashville was named School of the Year for the 9th time out of the last 10 years. Because of Nashville's dedication to excellence is was really no surprise to those attending the awards banquet. The staff was just getting over the excitement of receiving the award, when PBSA President Roger Oldham surprised the Nashville staff by naming Randy Jansen the 2007 Instructor of the Year.
Randy is an outstanding instructor who was well deserving of the award, but this came one year after Victor Deaton had won the 2006 Instructor of the Year. It's one of the few times a campus has won back to back Instructor of the Year awards. David and Quinn Edwards also won PBSA's Contribution Award given to schools who contribute throughout the year to the Professional Bartending Schools of America system. Congratulations to the complete staff at Professional Bartending School of Nashville on another outstanding year.
